Extractive Industry Emergency Response Challenge

Extractive Industry Emergency Response Challenge

WHEN: Sep 2019

The Challenge was formerly called the “National Mining Emergency Response Challenge” coordinated by the Mines Inspectorate of the Mineral Resources Authority.

The Chamber has now assumed the role as the organiser of the event which will be staged biennially under its new label PNG Extractive Industries Emergency Response Challenge. As well as promoting emergency response and rescue within the resources sectors, it also provides a great opportunity to promote the benefits of mutual aid agreements and networking among project sites.

The PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum (PNGCMP) hosted the 2017 Extractive Industries Emergency Response Challenge (EIERC) from 2nd – 4th October at the PNG Maritime College in Madang. There were more than 200 participants and many of the participating teams came from the respective mining and petroleum projects.

The Challenge activities included a theory exam, fire rescue, rope rescue, endurance, multi casualty, hazardous materials and confined space search and rescue.

The Chamber will host the event again in 2019 from 1st to 2nd October, in Port Moresby.
